For a good account of how Reflex in Richmond went down on Friday, check out my boy Brian's blog over at Pyramids. It's a good read. I'll attempt to give my account on the night accompanied with a few flicks I shot. I myself was pretty tanked, so in no way am I a reliable source of what happened. Eh, maybe I am....fuck it.

Began the night at Brian and Pepe's house. Had a couple of beers. Mau and BV were dukin' it out cause they each thought they had the best flag t-shirts. I remember Brian, telling a corny joke, and Mau responding..."You need to put that were you put your sleeves!" Had me rolling at least. Somewhere in the mix the word "flaggot" got tossed around. 1130 we bounced to Toads Place.

Doddie had just finished his set when this picture was taken. I think he played some Aliyah...haha. can't be sure, but nice set none the less. Murdered it.

The end of the night, I initially tried to instigate a fight with the three frat guys that BV called the "Sharks" earlier, but some how it turned into a 45 minute freestyle battle. Straight Westside Story.

Another flyer circa '94. This one was for my friend/god mother (ha.), Antonette. She was turning 18 and threw a party at the Kempsville Lakes Rec Center. From what I remember the party was dope, and that was w/out any ETOH...maybe just a little THC.

On a side note, I ran into an old friend, Ronald, and he's currently trying to iron out the details on an ECB reunion. If you remember that crew, than your showing your age. I personally didn't know what he was talking about.

Being that today is Go Skateboarding Day, I thought it would be appropriate to toss these flicks from my Myspace account up. Taken around 90-93 when I lived in San Diego. I quit when I moved to Virginia Beach mostly cause I had no car, mass transit sucked, and the spots around my neighborhood were lame.

The launch ramp is pretty weak, but I like this picture mostly cause my Grandpa (in the background) liked watching me do tricks in the streets. Around this time, Im probably skating an H-Street deck (Hensley.) Back then the kids I skated with started a crew called N.S.P. aka Notorious Skate Posse, bka No Suckaz Participatin'! When we weren't skating we were probably writing on the walls at Ralph's grocery stores. Most skaters in my neighborhood also wrote graffiti, for that most of the gangs didn't like us too much.

This shot was taken in Downtown San Diego. Me and my cousin Frankie (the one in the Rugby) would hop on the MTS (Mass Transit System or Meneace To Society) from SE Diego, and skate wherever we felt like going. More often than not we would run into the Donger, Sal Barbier, or Sean Sheffey, and immediately feel intimidated and just sit on our boards and watch. haha.

Another shot taken in downtown San Diego. Notice the size 38 pants, Pro Models, and the sliver of urethane covering my bearings. It took forever getting around on those small ass wheels.

I was talking to BV on AIM, and came to the conclusion that two posts a day is the minimun, any less and your slacking. So, initially I was going to toss up a video, but that's like the cop out. Instead I remembered this picture I found online somewhere, (I think here), and decided to run with it. Totally 80's with the best of both worlds. Nude chicks and skateboarding. It's also a plus that she's got good form on the handplant.

Also, tonight "Crush Groove" at the Boars Nest. JC/DC and Smedium on the set. Walt & Howards "Stella"bration. Check old posts for the flyer, but Im sure you've seen it floating around the internetsss. See ya there.

My friend Abeski posted these old flyers on his blog earlier. They were done in the late 90's between me and George (Stop Lion) for a few Zulu Nation events we were doing back then. Tons of hand drawn flyers were floating around Virginia Beach then, and all of a sudden it seems, after my generation moved on, no one continued doing shit for a few years. Anyhow, enjoy these pieces from Virginia's past, and if you have any flyers from the area back in the days hit me up. Myself and Brian V. (Pyramids) are thinking about putting together a Zine full of em.

Damn, I miss this place. Didn't get to stay there much since I had to move back to Virginia Beach for work, but every time I'd go up to visit Dawn I'd feel like I was home. Dawn would sometimes get annoyed cause I'd go through everything like it was my first time being there. Checking out old magazines, books, etc...kinda like being nosy in your own house. Anyhow, most of this stuff is in storage now...won't be seeing it again till we unpack in Brooklyn.

One of those rare cartoons I used to watch as a kid, brought to you by one of my favorite animators, Ralph Bakshi. The man behind Mighty Mouse, Coonskin (later changed to Streetfight), Fritz the Cat, Lord of the Rings (animated), Wizard, and more.

Every now and then over a few beers, cartoons seem to come into the conversation. I've mentioned this one a few times, but there is another cartoon I always bring up, but can never remember the name. It was kind of like the Smurfs, but with Trolls in trees that drove cars. Anyhow, if you know what I'm talking about, jot down the title in the comments section.

Muhammad Ali published by Magnum Photos

Books, I like em. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but I couldn't imagine life today without them. Sure there's the internets, but I like to have something in my hand, turn the page, lift some photos ;) that kind of shit. Anyhow, I've wanted the GOAT "A Tribute To Muhammad Ali" book for sometime now. Published by Taschen Books, layout designed by legendary artist Jeff Koons, blah, blah, blah. One thing has stopped me tho'...the $1500 price tag. Fuck, I'm sure it's worth it, but I deff don't have that kinda caked to be throwing around.

So for those in the same situation as me, I recommend the Muhammad Ali book published by Magnum Photos. I think I got it from Barnes & Noble for seven dollars on sale. Tons of great photos, and a well put together layout. I've got some great photos out of this book including the images I've incorporated into my header.
So, log off the net, skip the magazine rack, and see what you can find.

Im a long way from buying a new sofa. Shit I haven't even been able to enjoy my apartment in RVA, since I moved back to Virginia Beach. But if I could, the above three sofa's would be on my wish list. The first was designed by legendary textile designer Alexander Girard. This sofa was only produced for one year, and is extremely hard to find. Plus it commands a high price. I probably will never sit in it, let alone own it. The second is a sofa designed by George Nelson (or one of his associates) and is dubbed the "Sling Sofa." It's probably within my reach (one day.) I've seen a few, and when the leather is broken in, it's at its best. The last sofa was produced by Knoll. It's last on my list, only if the above two never find it's way into my living space. Simple, and a midcentury classic.

Above is a collage I've been working on as of late. I had a whole series of work like this; however, my MacBook's hard drive seized about a week ago before I could save everything to an external. Oh well, lesson learned! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this one, it was more of an out of boredom project.
